THE MUSIC ON THIS PAGE IS "NEW BURYING GROUND" FROM LONNIE'S FIRST LP "SHOWCASE" AND IT IS ALSO ON THE "BACKSTAIRS SESSIONS" EP
From 1955 with The Chris Barber Jazz band.
Precious Lord, Lead Me On / Tiger Rag
Issued by Storyville records of Denmark on their Tempo label.
|Originally recorded in 1955, and released on The Jazz Today label by Pye. Reissued within a year on The Pye Nixa label, Lonnie had now become a top name. The Jazz Today version is getting harder to find.|
Due to Lonnie's popularity Hoping to cash in Columbia issued this early Chris Barber recording, but with Lonnie's name prominate.
With Chris Barbers Jazz Band
Still a few copies about, but very hard to find in good condition.
One of Lonnie's personal favourites. Never issued as a single in The UK.
Taken from his 1956 LP Showcase
This one is one of own favourites.
Not issued in The UK.
This is "Over In The Gloryland" Not "I Ain't Got No Religion" often misnamed as Gloryland!
Kevin Barry, one of the hardest to find. This was issued in Eire only, and banned by The BBC. It is the tale of the youngest member of The IRA killed by British Troups
POSSIBLY THE RAREST UK ISSUES. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRESSING THAT WAS BANNED BY THE BBC, BECAUSE OF THE WORDS "RUDDY BRITISH" RERECORDED AS "BLOOMIN' BRITISH"
THERE IS NO OBVIOUS DIFFERENCE IN APPEARANCE TO EITHER VERSION.
ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. ISSUED ON THE DOT LABEL IN THE USA IN 1959.
ANOTHER ONE NOT ISSUED HERE IN THE UK
ONE OF LONNIE'S BIGGEST HITS, AND PROBABLY THE BEST KNOWN. THIS COPY IS FROM THE GERMAN COMPANY METRONOME.
|ON THE LEFT A RARE UK PROMO VERSION. ON THE RIGHT AN USA ISSUE ON LONDON OF MY LOVERLY JUANITA, WRITTEN BY LONNIE WITH HIS DAUGHTER IN MIND.|
A VERY RARE TEST PRESSING OF
PICK - A - BALE OF COTTON.
VERY MUCH DIFFERENT TO THE ONE RELEASED IN 1962.
THE RAREST RECORDING IN MY COLLECTION. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL ACETATE OF AUNTIE MAGGIES REMEDY
A VERY HARD TO FIND RECORD, I'VE LOST MY LITTLE WILLIE. BANNED BY THE BBC, JUST LOOK AT THE TITLE AND YOU CAN SEE WHY! NOT ONE OF MY FAVOURITES!
USA ISSUED ON THE DOT LABEL IN 1959.
THE B SIDE IS AUNT RHODY.
THIS WAS A HIT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC.
NOT EASY TO FIND IN THE UK.
